Course Description

In this entertaining and engaging course, we take a deep dive into the three pillars of ethics in the accounting profession: Independence, Objectivity, and Integrity. You will explore their roots, their purpose, and their interconnectivity. We will also look at how well-established psychological biases make independence and objectivity basically impossible to attain.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define independence, objectivity, and integrity and analyze their importance in the accounting profession, the public markets, and the individual life of the CPA

  • Identify how independence is required for objectivity and how objectivity is required for integrity

  • Determine why the appearance of independence, objectivity, and integrity is just as important as actual independence, objectivity, and integrity in the accounting profession
